Festive Fashion Picks that are Functional Too!

‘Tis the season to…freeze? Temperatures have been looming around zero degrees here in Chicago and I can’t help but bundle up with my sweaters and jackets. With the holiday season in full-swing, it is essential to maintain the spirit with festive fashion that is also warm for those holiday events and parties. With the exception of New Year’s Eve, this is a time of the year, when people completely immerse themselves in the majestic tones of red, gold, and even emerald green. With fashion trends evolving so quickly, it can be challenging to choose the right garment to reflect the seasonal mood. For this year, I want to place the emphasis on four beautiful jackets – even some made by our own talented South Asian designers!

Play It Up With Pink Brocade

This fabulous pink brocade long jacket with belt, $201 by SVA can be worn as a dress, with or without heels. For those who have a low cold-tolerance like I have, consider pairing it with Merino wool tights to pack in the warmth. The pretty pink color takes a shift from the conventional red, gold tones that most people gravitate towards while remaining festive with the polti buttons in green.  The brocade belt has a touch of gold to hit a home run. Although Pernia’s Popup Shop will be delivering this internationally and may take a bit more time, I would say this item is definitely worth the wait. It is such a classically elegant piece, it can be a staple in your wardrobe for years to come even if it doesn’t  make it in time for this holiday season!

Expect The Unexpected With RACHEL Rachel Roy

This Long-Sleeve Studded Tuxedo Jacket, $134 from RACHEL Rachel Roy may look very much like a tunic in the front. However, in back, the jacket gives off a chic tuxedo feel. Unlike the first option above, this jacket will definitely require a thicker pair of pants or a skirt. Regardless of what you wear it with, the gold, V-neck cut is just perfect for any fancy occasion that your schedule may have in store.

Make A Statement With The Perfect Sparkle

Free People Jacket, Sequin Lace-Hem, $268.  They may not be South Asian but Free People does a clean job in incorporating sequins and lace hem with a conventional American jacket pattern. Again, gold becomes a common denominator here. The brightness of the jacket will generously satisfy any woman’s quota of sparkles for an entire outfit, so it can pair simply with a neutral shaded-bottom for a perfectly balanced ensemble.

Try A Timeless Classic

It would be a bit improper not have at least one red jacket for the season. And nothing says ‘Holiday Party’ like a classic tweed jacket in red. Alice + Olivia’s ‘Kidman’ Tweed Open Front Jacket, $495 embodies the timeless look of the holidays while remaining versatile for the rest of the season. It can be dressed down with pants and a slouchy tee or dressed up with a form fitting dress. P.S. Red is a great color for medium to dark skin-tones.

Hope this helps inspire your festive fashion choices for the holidays and gives you ideas to stay warm and stylish!
